The ad in the yellow pages proudly proclaimed, “Voted Indy’s Best Wings!!”.
There were three locations and a corporate office listed for Just Wing’n It, so
we visited the Michigan Road location to find out what all the excitement was
about. As we walked across the parking lot, we noticed the sign said Wing’n It
Pizza Grill. What’s up with that? We proceeded inside anyway.
Entering the door, we found the restaurant on the right and a bar area on
the left. We checked the menu and didn’t find any sign of pasta salad, so we
continued our research. We placed an order for wings and fries and a salad.
Ten wings for 6.49 seemed a bit pricey, especially when compared to Café Hot
Wing 8’s lunch special. Unfortunately, we didn’t notice the “Jumbo” label on
the menu.
The menu has a lot of variety, with boneless wings, appetizers, salads,
pizza, sandwiches and desserts available. There are a number of combos and
daily specials too.
They had plenty of TV screens for a relatively small sports bar. The place
looks partially finished – like it’s still under construction. They have pool
tables in the bar area.
We found it odd that they have Heinz catsup in portion control cups. I
guess they’re too cheap to buy bottles. We also found it odd that there was no
mention of celery and blue cheese on the menu.
The wings arrived about 10 minutes later and they were HUGE!!! Almost
turkey wing kind of big, big, big. We took a bite, wishing that we had ordered
extra crisp. As we suspected, the wings were very tough and chewy. The product
was hot, but not crisp. The sauce was delicious, with a blend of jalapenos
clearly visible. The sauce was thick and delicious, but my goodness what big,
tough wings. This is the kind of place that thinks they are giving you a great
value with big wings. They probably listen to stupid customers that complain
about small wings and order their product extra large. This is unfortunate,
because the only way we would be able to return would be to order the smallest
wings available and get them cooked extra crispy.
The fries were a very thin shoestring, coated with some kind of starch to
keep them crispy. We can’t say that we were overly impressed with the potatoes.
Sorry, but we can’t go along with voting for these wings…
