We visited the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the third
Formula One event. Bob Kim, rookie Wingazette®
Racing League member, was in attendance. Bob says he'll be back next year.
"I just know I'll want to be able to describe how awesome this race and this
track are, but words don't do it justice," says Bob. Pictures don't do it
justice either, but here they are...

Although the Ferrari freight train ran away with the race, we enjoyed being
there to see the spectacle. Leading by 2.7 seconds on the last lap,
Michael Schumacher surprised everyone by slowing into the last turn to allow his
teammate Rubens Barrichello to win the race by .0011 seconds, the closest finish
in F1 history. Was Spoonface trying for a tie? We'll probably never
know.

The crowd, estimated at 125,000, was down significantly from last year.
Tony George still insists that he will continue to host the event, and plans no
changes to the course, in spite of complaints from drivers that the infield
section is just too slow. Tony lives for complaints.

Watching the 20 cars coming down the straight into the first turn was quite
a site. These cars are going 200 miles per hour, and then 1.5 seconds
later they're ducking into the turn at 40 mph! It was pretty tight on the
first lap, but everyone made it through. On the second lap, the BMW
teammates came together, with Ralf Schumacher losing his rear wing. Juan
Pablo Montoya soldiered on to a 4th place finish.

Although the championship was over a long time ago, Barrichello wrapped up
second place in the Championship with his second win in a row. The fans
knew that Schumacher intentionally slowed, and showed their disapproval after
the checkered flag.

We had such a great time, we're already planning next year's trip.
Stay tuned...
